Gjallarstadir Viking Market 2027: early September, dates not announced
The Gjallarstadir Viking Market is held on the first weekend of September at the Nebbursvollen park in Lillestrøm, fifteen minutes by train from Oslo. Run by the Gjallarstadir Viking Society, it is the closest Viking market to Oslo and one of the last of the Norwegian season.

What happens
A weekend market in a riverside park: historical goods, crafts, music, games, a children’s treasure hunt and short talks. The society behind it is Lillestrøm’s own Viking group, and the market has grown into the main Viking event in the Oslo region outside Borre.
What visitors say
Listings and the organizer’s own material describe around 200 travelling Vikings, a market, archery, historical games, riddles, saga storytelling, lectures, music, juggling, combat and courses in plant-dyeing yarn, in a riverside park with a public bathing area. Tickets are sold online. Visitor reviews are thin because the market is young and local, but Lillestrøm’s tourist office and Visit Greater Oslo both list it as the Viking event of the Oslo region’s late summer.
Our take
Gjallarstadir is the easiest Viking market to reach from Oslo: eleven minutes by train and a walk along the river. It is a family-scale event, ticketed and well organised, and in the first week of September it is also one of the last chances of the year. Go for an afternoon with children, buy the family ticket, and let it be the end of the Viking season rather than the centre of a trip.

Getting there
Lillestrøm is eleven minutes from Oslo Central by train and thirty from Gardermoen Airport. Nebbursvollen is a fifteen-minute walk from the station along the river.
