What happens

A weekend camp and market on the grass at Møllebukta, a bathing beach on the Hafrsfjord with the three bronze swords of the Sverd i fjell monument standing in the rock beside it. Crafts, fighting displays and food, at the scale of a local gathering rather than a festival. The setting carries it: this is where the sagas place the sea battle that made Harald Fairhair king of all Norway.

Getting there

Møllebukta is fifteen minutes from Stavanger city centre and from Sola Airport. City buses to Madla stop nearby, and there is parking at the beach.

Combine with

Avaldsnes Viking Festival the weekend before, an hour and a half north, for a two-weekend Viking trip on Norway’s west coast.
