Stallarholmen Viking Festival 2027: early July, dates not announced
The Stallarholmen Viking Festival is held over the first weekend of July on the shore of Lake Mälaren at Stallarholmen, near Strängnäs, about an hour west of Stockholm. It is a mid-sized market and camp with a strong children's program, run by the local Viking association since 2013.

What happens
A market of smiths, potters, leatherworkers and textile crafters along the water, a reenactor camp, demonstrations of nålbinding, wood carving and forging, and a children’s village that keeps families busy for hours. The festival marked its tenth year in 2023 and has grown into one of the larger events around Lake Mälaren.
What visitors say
The festival draws a steady 4,000 to 5,000 visitors over its weekend, and the local press coverage each year reads the same way: jesters, staged fights, theatre, and a children’s village that the youngest visitors do not want to leave. The children’s village charges a small separate fee, about 50 SEK, and reviewers consider it the best-organised part of the event. Written reviews from international visitors are few; this is a Swedish family festival that has not yet been discovered by travelers.
Our take
Stallarholmen is the Stockholm-region market to pick if you have children under ten. It is an hour from the city, on the water, and built around keeping small people busy. Adults looking for a big trader street or a serious camp will find it modest. Combine it with a night in Strängnäs or Mariefred, both pretty lakeside towns, rather than driving back.

Getting there
By car from Stockholm, take the E20 west and exit for Strängnäs, then follow signs to Stallarholmen. Drive through the village and over the bridge; the festival ground is about 400 meters after the bridge on the lake side. By public transport, take a train to Läggesta or Strängnäs and continue with bus 304 or 303 to Stallarholmen bus station, about 200 meters from the ground.
Combine with
Gamla Uppsala Viking Festival in mid-June and Birka Viking Weeks in July. Strängnäs itself has a medieval cathedral and a small old town worth an hour.
