Trondheim Viking Market 2027: mid June, dates not announced
The Trondheim Viking Market is held over the third weekend of June at Horg bygdatun, a rural museum in Melhus about forty minutes south of Trondheim, Norway. Run by the Trondheim Viking Society, it combines a market and camp with a lecture program on clothing, finds and music.

What happens
A weekend market and camp on the grounds of a rural heritage museum, with traders, warriors and craftspeople, and something most markets lack: a lecture program each day on historical clothing, metal detecting, Baltic Viking Age finds and musical instruments. Visitors can make a clay bead, strike a coin, write in runes, shoot a bow or take a sword and shield lesson from the warriors.
What visitors say
The market moved to Horg bygdatun in 2024 after years at Lade in Trondheim, and local coverage of the first edition there called it a clear success: 80 to 100 Vikings and volunteers, some of the better craftspeople in Europe demonstrating, and a rural museum setting with its own history of powerful Iron Age farms. The organizers emphasise the lecture program and the hands-on activities: coin striking, rune writing, bead making, warrior training. It is an association market with an association’s scale. There are few tourist reviews because few tourists have found it.
Our take
Trondheim’s market is the one to visit if you are in Trøndelag in June and want to see how a Norwegian Viking society works from the inside. The lectures make it more educational than most, the children’s activities are generous, and under-16s are free. It is not a destination event and does not pretend to be. Pair it with Nidaros Cathedral and the Stiklestad battlefield museum an hour north for a Viking and medieval weekend.

Getting there
Horg bygdatun is in Melhus, about forty minutes south of Trondheim on the E6. Værnes Airport is an hour away. Regional trains stop at Melhus, with a taxi for the last stretch.
