Aggersborg Viking Craft Meet 2027: late August, dates not announced
The Aggersborg Viking Craft Meet is held over the last weekend of August at Aggersborg, the largest of Denmark's ring fortresses, on the Limfjord at Aggersund an hour from Aalborg. It is a craft-focused gathering of around a hundred Vikings with live workshops and guided tours of the UNESCO-listed fortress.

What happens
Aggersborg is the biggest of Harald Bluetooth’s ring fortresses, 240 metres across, with the ramparts visible as a great circle in the grass above the Limfjord. The craft meet is smaller and more focused than a market: around a hundred Vikings demonstrating smithing, textile work, woodwork and cooking, with guided tours of the fortress by the museum. It is the place to watch how things were made rather than to shop.
What visitors say
Tripadvisor reviewers like Aggersborg for what it is: free, empty and enormous, with a small entrance exhibition on Harald Bluetooth’s fortresses, a church, toilets, and reenactors in tents during events. The view over the Limfjord from the rampart gets consistent praise. Reviewers also say plainly that you cannot spend many hours here. The craft meet in late August, with 80 to 100 Vikings demonstrating rather than selling, has ten years behind it and good coverage in the regional press, which stresses the guided tours of the fortress by the museum.
Our take
Aggersborg is for people who like scale and silence. There is no reconstruction, no market street and no admission; there is a circle in the grass 240 metres across and a fjord. The craft meet is the one weekend a year when the circle has people in it, and the best time to come if you want to see how things were made rather than buy them. Combine with Fyrkat and Lindholm Høje and give the three a two-day loop from Aalborg.

Getting there
Aggersund is on the north shore of the Limfjord, 45 minutes west of Aalborg by car. The fortress is signposted from the bridge. There is no useful public transport.
