Ishøj Viking Market 2027: early September, dates not announced
Ishøj Viking Market is a free two-day market on the first weekend of September at Ishøj Tange, a nature area on the coast twenty-five minutes south of central Copenhagen. Run by a local association with municipal support, it recreates a Viking trading settlement with working craft stalls, Icelandic horses and combat displays.

What happens
A recreated Viking trading settlement on the Ishøj Tange headland: silversmiths, weavers, smiths, wood carvers, brewers and cooks at work in their stalls, Icelandic horses in the demonstrations, trained fighters showing sword, spear and axe, and saga storytelling. The horses have been part of the market since it started. The organizers make a point of authenticity: no visible plastic during opening hours. Food and drink are sold on site.
What visitors say
We have not found independent visitor reviews in English. The organizer’s own material says the market has reached its maximum number of participants for the last two years, which is the reenactors’ vote of confidence. It began as part of a local culture week and now runs on its own with funding from Ishøj municipality.
Our take
Ishøj is the easiest Viking market to reach from Copenhagen, and it is free, which makes it the obvious add-on for anyone in the city on the first weekend of September when the big summer events are over. It is small compared with Trelleborg or Moesgaard. Go for an afternoon, combine it with the beach and the Arken art museum on the same headland, and do not expect the scale of the July festivals. It shares its weekend with Gunnes gård outside Stockholm and Gjallarstadir outside Oslo.
Our take is based on visitor reviews, reenactor forums and the organizer’s own program, not on a visit. We say so because we think you should know.
Getting there
Ishøj Tange is on the coast south of Copenhagen, about twenty-five minutes by car from the centre and half an hour from the airport, with free parking at the market. By public transport, take S-train line A or E to Ishøj Station; the last stretch to the headland is a walk or a local bus, and the organizer does not publish directions for it, so allow time.
