Ribe International Viking Market 2027: dates, tickets and how to get there
The Ribe International Viking Market runs for a full week at the turn of April and May at Ribe VikingeCenter outside Ribe, Denmark's oldest town, about an hour from Billund Airport. With several hundred Vikings from across Europe it is one of the largest Viking markets on the continent, and it opens the Nordic season each year.

What happens
Ribe VikingeCenter is a living-history museum a few kilometers south of Ribe, with a reconstructed town, farm and market place. The international market at the turn of April and May draws several hundred reenactors and traders for a full week. It is the first big event of the season, so many of the same traders you meet at Foteviken and Moesgaard later in the summer are here first.
What visitors say
The market week gets the best reviews of anything Ribe VikingeCenter does. Visitors describe the smell of smoke and horses, warrior fights you can stand at the front row for, a jester, longbow shooting, and a trader street where you can actually bargain. Families rate it highly: the children’s role-playing game, warrior training and flatbread baking come up again and again as the things kids remember.
The criticism is about money. On Trustpilot, the center’s reviews are mixed, and the complaints cluster on food and drink prices and on the 30 DKK charge per hands-on activity on top of admission. A few visitors also found the center quiet and underwhelming on ordinary days outside the market, which is worth knowing if you come at another time.
Reenactors regard Ribe as one of the two or three most serious markets in Europe for authenticity standards. The traders here are vetted, and the kit is period-correct.
Our take
Ribe is the market for people who care about authenticity and want to see the season’s best traders before anyone else. Because it runs a full week, weekdays are noticeably calmer than the weekend, and the town of Ribe itself, with Denmark’s oldest cathedral and cobbled streets, makes it an easy two-day trip.
Budget for it. Admission plus an activity card plus lunch for a family of four lands well above what most Nordic markets cost, and reviewers notice. And check the weather: early May in western Jutland can be cold and wet, and the site is open fields.

Getting there
Ribe has a railway station with connections via Bramming to Esbjerg and on to Copenhagen. The center is about 3 km south of town; a shuttle or a walk along the road. By car from Billund Airport it is about an hour west. From Germany, Ribe is the first Danish town of any size north of the border.
Where to stay
Ribe itself is worth a night: a medieval town with Denmark’s oldest cathedral and a good range of small hotels. Book early for market week.
