Frederikssund Viking Games 2027: dates, tickets and how to get there
The Frederikssund Viking Games are an open-air Viking play performed nightly for a week in late June on Kalvøen island in Frederikssund, Denmark, 45 minutes from Copenhagen, with a Viking market on the middle weekend. Running since 1952, it is the oldest Viking event in the Nordics, and 2026 was its 75th season.

What happens
Every summer since 1952 the town has staged a new Viking play with a cast of local amateurs in a purpose-built outdoor theatre on Kalvøen. The 2026 play, for the 75th season, was “Skjold, Son of Odin”. Around the theatre is a reconstructed settlement, and on the weekend after the premiere a Viking market fills it with traders and craftspeople. There is a midsummer bonfire on June 23.
Getting there
Frederikssund is the last stop on Copenhagen’s S-train line H, about 50 minutes from the central station. Kalvøen is a fifteen-minute walk from the station across the bridge. By car it is under an hour from the airport.
Combine with
Roskilde and the Viking Ship Museum are half an hour south. Trelleborg Viking Festival follows in July.
